SUMMER STUDENT POSITION: EVENT COORDINATOR

The Acadia Cinema Cooperative Ltd. Seeks an event coordinator. The position would be under the supervision of the current Theatre Manager and board, and daily duties would vary depending on the events schedule but the following list encompasses the scope of the work experience that the candidate can expect from their placement.

Assist in Al Whittle Theatre Event Planning (30%)

  • Connect with community based clubs and organizations for collaborations on arts-based promotion and events.

  • Assist with Whittle Film Series programming reporting, boxoffice, administration, liaise with Volunteer Coordinator as needed for event planning

Assist Social Media and Marketing ( with assistance and support from a SM & Marketing professional and Board Member) (30%)

  • Create graphics in Canva for social media and print ads (based on templates)

  • Schedule posts on social media

  • Engaging on social media

  • Maintain the Squarespace website

  • General support for marketing campaigns

Explore Possible Community and Corporate Funding Opportunities and Partnerships (20%)

  • Search county, provincial and national government funding available to not- for profit arts based organizations and/or CO-OPS

  • Search out possible corporate partnerships for Theatre use re: Life- Long learning events investigate possible advertisement revenue

Planning and Coordination for the WhitFlix Short Film Competition and Gala (10%)

  • Collaborate with board and Ross Creek Centre for the Arts leadership to plan the annual Whitflix competition & gala evening of screenings and awards.

Compile Data for drafting of Theatre Equipment Audit (10%)

  • Work with theatre manager and technicians to compile a comprehensive Equipment inventory

About Acadia Cinema Cooperative (ACC)

The ACC is a nonprofit arts cooperative established in 2002 to save the landmark Acadia Cinema building at 450 Main Street from redevelopment. The goal was to redesign, restore, revitalize, create and operate cultural facilities located in the building with a café and art gallery on the premises. Today, the ACC presents independent film, theatre, and music in collaboration with local artists and artistic organizations.

Annual events include the Cinema Series, which is composed of approximately 90 film screenings annually, Whitflix, an independent film festival, and a variety of live performances.

About Canada Summer Jobs

To be eligible to participate in this Canada Summer Jobs funded position, Candidates Must:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;

  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigrant and Refugee Protection Act* and;

  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

    Remuneration is $18/hour, at 35 hours/week (flexible schedule and work location, yet will include some evenings and weekends). This position has been funded for a minimum of 8 weeks starting May 9, 2024 (if possible).
